In commemoration of World Food Day, JMG Limited partnered the Lagos Food Bank Initiative to deliver essential food assistance to over 400 vulnerable women and households in the Majidun community of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The joint outreach targeted local families struggling with the rising cost of living, providing them with critical food supplies designed to support a family of five.
Addressing Hunger in Ikorodu Through Strategic Partnerships
The initiative commenced at the Lagos Food Bank Initiative’s headquarters, where JMG leadership and staff joined forces with volunteers to package relief materials. The combined team, welcomed by the food bank’s Executive Director, Dr Michael Sunbola, subsequently moved to Majidun to begin direct distribution.
“Hundreds of families are receiving food boxes today,” noted Dr Sunbola. “At a time when many struggling families do not know where their next meal will come from, this gesture brings hope, relief, and joy.”
Why the Outreach Targeted Women in Majidun
The program deliberately focused on supporting women as the pillars of local household structures.
- Empowering the Core of Society: JMG’s Chief Operating Officer, Christian G. Kozma, highlighted that women are central to community advancement.
- Shared Civic Responsibility: Gloria Ibeziako, Chief Human Resources Officer at JMG, emphasized that hunger requires immediate, collective private sector action to bring relief to families in need.
- Impact Over Corporate Output: Oluwatomi Faniran, Head of Marketing at JMG, stated that leveraging structured partnerships like the Lagos Food Bank Initiative ensures that corporate social responsibility (CSR) budgets directly reach those facing real community needs.
Local Community Impact and Support
For residents of Majidun, the intervention offered practical support toward meeting everyday household needs. Morenike Adigun, a local resident, expressed deep appreciation, noting that the food support goes a long way in easing the daily pressure of putting meals on the table.
The Baale of Majidun Community, Chief Alex Olusegun Omoyele, also commended JMG and the Lagos Food Bank Initiative for remembering their jurisdiction and easing the financial burden on local households.
While sustainable development requires long-term collaboration, direct community food relief tracks provide immediate, necessary lifelines to families navigating economic hardships across Lagos State.
